Deconstructed Silkscreening

June Workshop with Cindy Shaw

Our June 9th workshop will be held at Sandy Vrem's home and taught by Cindy Shaw who explains, "I also call this texture screening. By placing textures under a blank screen using fiber reactive dyes and a thickener we are going to transfer the design onto papers and fabric. I will teach you different techniques.

There will be two 3-hour sessions: 9am-12noon and 1-4pm. There are 5 spaces open for the morning session and 3 in the afternoon. Cost is $25 per session.

What to bring:
• Apron
• Rubber gloves
• Padding for table (a few sheets or a smooth blanket)
• Paintbrushes of different sizes
• Paper to screen on (any kind of white paper from tissue paper to watercolor paper, Japanese paper, lighter weight drawing and sketching paper is ideal)
• Hair dryer
• Textures such as leaves, paper or plastic stencils (you can make your own out of thicker watercolor paper), textured cloth, cardboards with texture, etc.

Materials provided:
• Lots of textures to share 
• All dyes and ingredients for screening
• Prepared cotton to screen on 
• Screens 
• Foam brushes
